Phokeethra Certified as an IGOLF
Laureate Course

February 4, 2009

Phokeethra Country Club is proud to have been recently certified by the International Golf and life Foundation (IGOLF) as a Laureate Course. IGOLF is a Swiss-based organization that recognizes golf courses around the world that practice environmental and social sustainability. Only a small number of golf courses worldwide have been accepted as IGOLF Laureate Courses, and we are proud to be recognized as one of those select few.

The reasons Phokeethra has been chosen by IGOLF include:

  • Self-sufficiency in water, including creation of ponds, reservoirs and an innovative irrigation system, as well as the ability to provide water to the local community in times of drought
  • Landscaping that improved existing terrain, with 20,000 new trees and 30,000 flowers planted – and no trees removed during construction
  • An improvement in the local ecosystem leading to an increase of local bird population from 30 to 80 species
  • Minimal use of chemicals & use of natural fertilizer
  • Use of recycled paper and other recycled materials
  • Renovation and management of the 11th century Roluh Bridge, a UNESCO Heritage Site
  • Extensive employment of staff from the local community
  • Special tournaments in support of Red Cross and other charities
  • Support from the APSARA National Authority of Cambodia

Phokeethra will continue to follow its guiding philosophy of practicing environmental sustainability and social responsibility while providing international-quality golfing experience to our members and visitors.
