Phokeethra Country Club Holds an Official Press Conference to Launch the 'Cambodian Open 2007'

 
On October 16, 2007, the Phokeethra Country Club held an official press conference to launch the historic Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open 2007 golf tournament, the first of its kind to be held in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The press conference was held in front of the Angkor Wat. A skins game featuring ranking Amateurs from three countries was held as part of the event, and key event organizers and sponsors were interviewed.
 
 

The first round of interviews was held with the following organizers, sponsors and other dignitaries:

  • His Excellency Doctor Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia
  • His Excellency Sou Pirin, Governor of Siem Reap
  • Madame Chau Sun Kerya, Director of Apsara Authority
  • Mr. Supachai Verapuchong, Managing Director of Phokeethra Country Club
  • Mr. Sam Fisher, General Manager, Indochina, Diageo Asia Pacific

Those were followed by interviews with the Asian Tour executive and three amateur golfer participants:

  • Mr. Kyi Hla Han, Executive Chairman, Asian Tour
  • His Excellency Eth Sarath, Cambodian Amateur Golfer
  • Mr. Varut Chomchalam, Thai Amateur Golfer
  • Mr. Nguyen Van Thong, Vietnamese Amateur Golfer

In the afternoon, the three ranking Amateurs from Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam played a skins game - a match where each hole had a specific, predetermined value. The top prize (USD 5,400), sponsored by Johnnie Walker and Tiffy Medicine (Thainakorn Patana Co., Ltd.) was donated to the Cambodian Red Cross.

Around 80 international journalists and reporters attended this press conference, marking the importance of the upcoming tournament in the international media.
