Phokeethra Country Club Monthly Newsletter AUGUST 2011 Welcome to the fourth edition of the Phokeethra Country Club Monthly Newsletter. As always, I will be providing you with insights into what has been happening at the Club recently and what we have coming up. Despite it being low season, the staff will be staying pretty busy in the coming months. The maintenance projects are in their final stages and the staff training programmes are well underway. | Caddy Master: Mr. Wat teaching the art of club selection when chipping around the green. One of the caddy’s many responsibilities is to advise their golfer on which clubs to use. This service is performed all over the course, whether from the tee, on the fairway or around the green. As all golfers know, they always need options when deciding on club selection. We are training the caddies here at PCC to be able to provide our golfers those options and to understand why they are giving them. This is learned by following instructions and through practice. Every day, a number of our caddies practice chipping and putting around the practice green. We support this, as practising allows them to improve not only their ability as caddies but also as players. This way they can relate to their golfers when on the course, which in hand will make it easier for them to recommend club selection. Course Maintenance

As Due to weather conditions, our project on the 4th green was delayed slightly, but we are now back on track, and all turf has been laid. We expect the green to be in play within the next couple of months. As a reminder, we will be cutting the existing green in half by turning the left side into the apron. The right side will remain and will now be joined by the new lower second tier. It’s a big drop from one level to the next which will definitely be a challenge of anyone’s putting skills! ![]() The new green at the 4th hole will also have link to the 5th tee box which will make the journey shorter for the walkers. If you tee the ball slightly higher than normal (see photo left), it will promote a higher ball flight. You would use this in calm conditions or when hitting downwind to gain more distance. Be careful not to tee the ball too high as this can result in mis-hits. Aim to have half the golf ball showing above the head of the driver when set on the ground. If you tee the ball slightly lower than normal (see photo right), it will lead to a lower ball flight. You would use this in windy conditions to hit the ball low to penetrate through the wind. The effect of using this in calm conditions will result in less carry and more roll in the ball when landing. Be careful, the tendency is to hit down on the ball slightly too much, as the tee is lower than usual, and this will result in a slice. Reciprocal Golf Clubs Remember these two tips next time you’re out on the course! I am pleased to announce that we now have a reciprocal agreement with three of the top golf courses in Vietnam. This agreement allows Phokeethra Country Club members to play at these specific clubs for a discounted rate and to receive the same benefits as members of those clubs. ![]() Danang Golf Club - Vietnam ![]() Sea Links Golf & Country Club - Vietnam
